Main Purpose of Job
The Regulatory and Compliance Engineer I will performsanitary surveys, prepare reports, and provide technical assistance tocommunity and non-transient non-community public water systems in the State ofMaryland. The incumbent in this position will contribute to securing safe,reliable, and adequate public water supplies that must comply with State andfederal laws and regulations.
The working conditions of this position may involve exposureto hazardous conditions which may result in injury. Work involves specialphysical demands such as lifting 50 pounds or more, climbing ladders, etc.
The incumbent in this position will be required to drive aState vehicle. If you maintain an out-of-statedriving license, you must provide a certified copy of your driving record fromthe appropriate Motor Vehicle Administration at the time of appointment. Individuals must maintain a driver's licensewith no more than 5 points on their driving record in order to drive a Statevehicle.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education: A Bachelor's degree in engineering or architecture from an accredited college or university.
Experience: None.
Notes:
1. Candidates may substitute the possession of a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least 20 credit hoursin engineering and two years performing engineering or architecturalwork in pollution control, waste remediation, resource conservation, environmental protection, public health and safety, or related areas may be substituted for the required education.
2.Candidates may substitute the possession of a current Professional Engineer or Professional Architect registration in the State of Maryland or in a state with comparable requirements for the required education.
3.Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience as a commissioned officer in Engineering and Architecture classifications or Engineering and Architecture specialty codes in the Environmental field of work on a year-for-year basis for the required education.
DESIRED OR PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
It is preferred that the selected candidate has the following:
-Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
-Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS AND CERTIFICATIONS
Employees in this classification may be assigned duties which require the operation of a motor vehicle. Employees assigned such duties will be required to possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in the State of Maryland.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Employees in this classification may be subject to call-in twenty-four hours a day, and, therefore, may be required to provide the employing agency with a telephone number where they can be reached.

PERSONAL LEAVE - New State employees are awarded six (6) personal leave days annually (prorated based on start date).
ANNUAL LEAVE - ten (10) days of accumulated annual leave per year.
SICK LEAVE – fifteen (15) days of accumulated sick leave per year.
PARENTAL LEAVE – up to sixty (60) days of paid parental leave upon the birth or adoption of a child.
